Responsibilities of the data protection officer

Institutional data protection officers are responsible for supporting and advising higher education institutions in implementing data protection regulations. Their responsibilities are specified in the the Bavarian Data Protection Act (Bayerisches Datenschutzgesetz, BayDSG).

The responsibilities of the data protection officer include in particular:

• ensuring that data protection regulations are observed to protect the personal rights of individuals during the collection, processing, and use of their personal data.
• evaluating and authorising the processing of personal data by automatic means as well as keeping a process register and making it available for review.

The THWS data protection officer carries out their responsibilities independently. They advise all THWS staff and students in any data protection matter. Inquiries are treated confidentially upon request.
